Dental Website and Retirement

Dental Website and Retirement

Mature dental professionals are far from an endangered species, and very few have plans to stop working anytime soon, according to a survey done recently by CareerBuilder. Some dentists continue working to compensate for the downward hit their personal and retirement investment accounts took during the recession. The real reasons are more diverse, though. It is not all about money only. Many dentists still feel they have too much to contribute to even consider retirement. And many patients agree. “Whether mature dentists are motivated by financial concerns or simply enjoy treating their patients every day, we’re seeing more people move away from the traditional definition of retirement,” says Ms. Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder.

Removal of Wisdom Teeth – Pros and Cons

For a lot of patient, the removal of wisdom teeth is an important question. Your wisdom teeth may not be causing problems to day. However, issues with them could surface anytime. Therefore, it may be difficult to decide whether to have your wisdom teeth removed now in order to prevent possible dental problems later. Below are a number of issues to consider:

  • It is seldom harmful to your overall health to have your wisdom teeth removed, but there are of course slight risks involved with any surgery.
  • In the younger generation (late teens and early 20s), the wisdom teeth’s roots are not fully developed and the jaw bone is not as dense, so it is easier to remove the tooth. This means, the younger you are, the easier your recovery is likely to be.
  • In your whole life, you may never have any problems with your wisdom teeth.
  • The majority of the problems with wisdom teeth develop early on, between the ages of 15 and 25.
  • An interesting fact is that if you are older than age 30, you have only a small risk of having problems with your wisdom teeth. Only few people older than 30 years old develop problems that require removal of their wisdom teeth.
  • Check with dental insurance company since carriers don’t always cover this procedure.

Pediatric Dental Health Concerns

Posted on January 25, 2012 by Dental Student

Dental care for children is an extremely important part of their overall development and hygiene. The habits learned at an early age will continue on and are much harder to break or reform later in life. These tips will help guide you and point out some things to remember when planning out a child’s dental health plan.

 Plan ahead.

Don’t wait until your first child has arrived to figure out the details about their dental care. Expecting parents should figure out where they want to take the child for care and work around their budget to find the best fit.
Newborn teeth cleaning

It is not recommended to use toothpaste with children until they are at least 2 years old. Until this time comes it is best to gently brush the teeth using only water. Once they are old enough to use toothpaste be sure to show the proper amount and usage (make sure they don’t swallow it). This will lead to good dental hygiene habits and less to worry about later on.

Lean how to deal with dental problems

Accidents happen and you should prepare yourself for what to do in case of an emergency. Having a basic knowledge of what steps to take could end up saving a child’s tooth. Try to educate yourself about how to deal with a cracked, broken, or missing tooth, bitten tounge or lip, canker sores, and toothaches.

Don’t allow too many sweets and candy

Moderation is key here. A few treats now and then is fine, but don’t let sugary drinks and food become the norm for snacks and meals. This will lead to faster tooth decay and lower overall health. Keeping a balanced diet is a great way to ensure dental and overall health!

Waiting until a problem comes along

Dental exams and cleanings are very important. The earlier a problem can be identified, the faster and easier it can be dealt with. Regular visits to the dentist will help find problem areas quickly.

Recruiting and Interview Tips for the Dental Practice

Interviewing in a dental practice

It is important to get the best applicants to join your dental team and even more important now in an improving economy. The recruiting and interview process is also one of the top tasks of every manager in a dental practice as well as the top task for the dentist and practice owner.

Below are a number of things I look for in every interview:

  • Professionalism – you want your dental practice to be a professional workplace and your workplace will only be as professional as your employees, so look out for professional looking resumes, voicemails and email accounts.
  • Attention to detail – In a dental practice, attention to detail is very important, so look out for it in the interview process.
  • Preparation – If the applicant has basic questions about you, your practice and other information that would be readily available with some preparation prior to the interview, it does not shine a bright light on the applicant.

Dental Insurance Plans

Dental Insurance Plans

In the past ten years, discount dental plans have been gaining a following with both families and individuals. It is more relevant than ever that discount dental plans are made available given that more than 110 million US Americans are not covered by any form of dental insurance. In addition to making these plans available, the general public also needs to be educated on this low cost alternative to traditional dental plans, which are typically offered to employees as part of their employment options. Those plans may have a number of disadvantages:

-          Laborious claims process and forms

-          Potentially high deductibles

-          Waiting periods

-          Annual maximum charge amounts

-          Exclusions based on pre-existing conditions

Discount dental plan offer a great alternative that anybody should investigate further.

Save Money on Dental Treament

Save Money on Dental Treament

1. Ask your dental professional to follow a list of priorities so you can get the most important procedures finished first. If you are working on a tight  budget you can hold off on the less immediate problems and wait until you can better afford them.

2. Eat healthier foods on a daily basis. Eating healthy will reduce the rate and occurrence of tooth decay.

3. Use Floss regularly and brush twice a day. These guidelines have been recommended by dentists for years. They will keep your teeth clean and healthy while giving you a more attractive smile at the same time.

4. Get checked regularly to avoid big problems down the road. Regularly scheduled cleanings and checkups can reduce a bigger cost in the future. If you take care of something before it grows into a real problem you might end up saving yourself a lot of pain and money.

5. Look into discount dental plan options. Low price plans are available and may include the type of coverage you need. If you find that available insurance plans are not going to meet your needs, then consider this as an alternative option.

6. If you are receiving orthodontic treatment do yourself a favor and wear your required pieces as often as possible. The more you wear your retainers or rubber bands the faster the treatment will go. You can finish the procedure faster and get that finished smile. On top of that you’ll money the quicker you get done!

Whiter and Brighter Teeth

Posted on January 20, 2012 by Dental Technology Expert

White and Bright Teeth - Dental WebsitesWho doesn’t want brighter, whiter teeth?

Stained teeth can occur as we get older, and some foods and drinks can also stain teeth. Home-made remedies can help whiten teeth, and avoiding certain substances that stain teeth can stop further discoloration. You should use the following secrets to restore your sunny and bright smile.

A number of foods (examples: pears, apples or carrots) might trigger lots of saliva, which helps wash away food debris on your teeth, similar to sugarless chewing gum. The benefit from all that saliva is that it neutralizes acid that causes tooth decay.

Not only to have whiter and brighter teeth, but you should certainly watch what you eat. Some foods can discolor teeth. Anything that can stain a white T-shirt can stain teeth. Typical offenders are coffee, tea, dark sodas and fruit juices.

And finally: Brush your teeth twice a day and floss once. Brushing helps prevent stain and discolored teeth, especially at the gum line. Electric toothbrushes are far superior to traditional manual brushes in removing plaque and surface stains on teeth.

Dental Fear and how to overcome it

Dental patient’s fear, and how to ease it. Dentistry has come a long way through higher standards, much greater dental health awareness and innovative dental technology.

About 15 percent of dental patients still experience dental fear or phobia, according to the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. There is a wide range, going from slight anxiety to crippling phobia.

It is important to discuss fear symptoms with patients and to take step to ease this fear. The dental visit will then be much easier on both you and the patient.

Think about these suggestions to turn office visits into a more pleasant experience.

  • Friendly atmosphere from your personnel (receptionist, office manager, hygienist, dentist)
  • Calming, soothing environment (comfortable chairs, couches, family magazines, fish tanks)
  • Sedation – a much discussed topic with a number of pros and cons
  • Technology – laser instrumentation is far less intimidating than some traditional drills
